Position of the muffler is alot of it, someone once told me that if the muffler is under the cab, it can create some drone. They said it acted kind of like a big drum.

when i bought my truck it had a vortex cruzer series muffler on it with a single 2.5 inch pipe comming out before the passenger side wheel all it did was drone when i ran the truck with no muffler it droned less than with that muffler now im running a muffler and tail pipes off of a lightning and it is perfect not too loud sounds good and i have some sort of back pressure

I have a Mac performance lightning muffler I dunno how long it is but its short enough that from the muffler to the exhaust cut out makes like an L shape rather than having to route back up to the cut out

Exhaust pipe length has a lot to do with it, that may help.
I know of a guy with a dodge who added 2" onto his tailpipe and nothing happened, then tried just slipping the tip back (like extending the tailpipe) about half an inch, and it didn't drone nearly as bad.

SLP makes quiet performance mufflers, they came stock with the SS camaro

the LS1s push past 400 hp with them all the time
