Hey Dennis,
I agree with the first two. But go ahead and get yourself a 93 performance tune. He can crank up the timing another 1-2 degrees that way. I would have thought you would have wanted a towing instead of gas mileage. There is a difference in the performance and towing. He retards it a little more at low rpms to give you a little more torq. At least thats what Justin told me.

I HAVE to have a gas milage tune, even if its just 1-2 mpg better. I do and am about to start doing more city driving.
I may do this:
87 milage
87 towing
93 performance

^ I think I'd go with that combo. Ya I agree with ya if your doing that kind of driving. I just don't do any of it (once in a blue moon when I go to the airport) so I have no reason to do it. Some people have said that justin is more interested in $$$ than his tuning quality. I kind of disagree with that because I spent a good hour with him on the phone talking about what kind of tuning options he can do on the dyno. He does know his stuff regardless of what people say.

Would you need a tow tune with a manual?

Well true a tow tune helps an auto alot more.. Like what was said above the timing is changed to have more torque at low rpms

Only helps the timing. As for all the tunes pretty much all that changes in a manual is the timing (rev limiters and stuff but that's standard).

I have the SCT Xcal3 from Justin at VMP. With the 87 gas mileage, 87 perf, and 93 perf. I have to say that I'm pretty happy with it so I guess I'm partial to VMP but I have heard Troyer is good as well so it's probably just really up to you.

It all depends just make it clear that you want the tune within a set date and if its not delivered in that set date your taking your money elsewhere..

Good advise. What is a reasonable turn around time for these things.

I'm not sure how things are now at Troyer but back when I first got my truck and found out about where to get stuff, I heard a lot of horror stories about Troyer not being reliable.

Neither. Get a custom tune from a local shop that has a great reputation.

Its best to be tuned on a dyno anyway.

Hey dennis about the wait thing. Just call them if you dont get them within like 10 days and say your going to the track (It gives them a reason to move it) and want to give them a try. It takes them like 5 min. to make them.
